FCATLAB, the post-production workshop of the Tarifa and Tangier African Film Festival-FCAT, returns with its fourth edition in May.

The twenty-first edition of the Tarifa festival, scheduled from May 24th to June 1st, will continue to focus on new productions and highlighting the work of post-production companies from Andalusia and the rest of Spain.

Seville, March 15, 2024. The Tarifa and Tangier African Film Festival-FCAT, celebrating its 21st edition from May 24th to June 1st, 2024, will feature a new edition of FCATLAB, the post-production workshop that will once again program one-to-one meetings and a project market, awarding a total of €24,000 in cash prizes and services for the development of African film productions. In recent years, we have witnessed an increase in the production of African films, along with a growing interest in these works by major international festivals. A standout example in recent times, the documentary “Dahomey” by the Franco-Senegalese director Mati Diop, won the Golden Bear for Best Film at the 74th Berlinale. Similarly, in previous editions of FCATLAB, feature films and filmmakers who have made an impact on the international festival circuit have been recognized, such as “Disco Afrika” by Luck Razanajaona (Rotterdam IFF 2024), “The Burdened” by Amr Gamal (Berlinale 2023), or “Fragments From Heaven” by Adnane Baraka (Locarno IFF 2023), among others.

Program and Awards

The fourth edition of FCATLAB, taking place on May 30th and 31st, 2024, continues to embrace the online format, thanks to the support of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), and the collaboration of various companies from Andalusia, Spain, and Europe. With this initiative, FCAT continues to tangibly support feature film projects from Africa through prizes awarded in the project market and presentations to sales agents, distributors, VOD platforms, programmers, and buyers in general. At the same time, FCATLAB seeks to increase the visibility of post-production companies from Andalusia and Spain in the audiovisual market of the neighboring continent, an increasingly thriving and recognized reality, where the national business fabric can expand its presence thanks to the high professionalism and competitiveness of its companies. The project will feature the participation of three internationally renowned juries in the film industry, responsible for awarding the post-production prizes.
