FCAT LAB is an online post-production workshop that provides support to African feature films through the awarding of prizes valued at €24,000 in cash and post-production services. This forum not only aims to recognize outstanding directors and producers but also seeks to increase the visibility and opportunities of emerging proposals by presenting them to sales agents, distributors, VOD platforms, and buyers in general.
FCAT LAB 2024 will take place exclusively online as part of the activities scheduled in “Palaver Tree,” the forum dedicated to professional and training activities of the Tarifa and Tanger African Film Festival FCAT.
The scheduled dates for FCAT LAB are Thursday, May 30th, and Friday, May 31st, 2024. The deadline for applications to participate in FCAT LAB 2024 is set for Wednesday, April 10th.

Lara Sousa is a Mozambican director and producer who works as a training coordinator for the MiradasDoc Documentary Market and Festival in Tenerife, Spain. Through various workshops, she strengthens the connection between Africa and Latin America. Lara has collaborated with various industry spaces such as DiaLab, Sheffield DocFest, and Durban Film Makert, among others. As a producer, she is interested in innovative content, focusing on themes like collective memory, cultural heritage, and colonization processes. Her projects have been selected for international funds such as HotDocs Blue Ice Fund and Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program.
Maher Diab, co-founder of MAD Solutions, is the creative force behind the company, positioning it as the leading distributor of Arab cinematic content globally. With artistic skills and a keen narrative sense, Diab has turned MAD Solutions into a leading marketing platform for promoting Arab cinema worldwide. After working in prestigious advertising agencies like BBDO, Y&R, and JWT, Maher Diab founded MAD Solutions in 2010 with Alaa Karkouti, marking a milestone in Arab cinema and elevating its industry to a global level. His key contribution was the establishment of the Arab Cinema Center (ACC) in 2015, a global platform to promote Arab cinema, which has become the global hub for those interested in Arab stories and talents, transforming the global perception of MENA cinema.
Nikolas Montaldi is a consultant with over ten years of experience in international film festivals. Since 2009, he has been part of the team at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), where he currently manages the Pro Hub, a platform dedicated to promoting connections and knowledge exchange among filmmakers. Additionally, Nikolas is a member of the selection committee for the IFFR co-production market, CineMart, and a reader for the script and project development committee of the Hubert Bals Fund. Since 2012, he is part of the team organising the Venice Production Bridge, held during the Venice International Film Festival, and in particular the Venice Gap-Financing Market for projects at an advanced stage. Since 2022, he has been an expert participant at the Cutting Edge Talent Camp at the Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival (IFFMH).
