Disco Afrika

Madagascar, today. Kwame, 20 years old, tries to make a living in the clandestine sapphire mines. Following an unexpected event, he must return to his hometown where he finds his mother, old friends, but also the corruption that plagues his country. Tossed about by contrary feelings, he will have to choose between easy money and brotherhood, individualism and awakening to a political conscience.

Luck Razanajaona (1985) is an emerging filmmaker from Madagascar who graduated from the Marrakech School of Visual Art in 2011. In the past, he attended prestigious programmes such as the Berlinale Talent Campus, Rotterdam Lab and La Fabrique des Cinémas du Monde in Cannes to develop his film projects. His short films were selected at numerous festivals around the world and won a prize at FESPACO. With the support of the CNC and Institut Français, he was selected to the Moulin d’Andé residency with his feature film project Chants de Tlous. He is currently working on Disco Afrika, his first feature film produced by We Film.
Created on the island of Reunion in May 2016 by Jonathan Rubin and François Magal, the production company We Film develops auteur film projects in the Indian Ocean. In territories where filmmaking remains fragile, we strive to accompany all audiovisual forms with dynamism and seriousness, regardless of genre or format. Through a true partnership, our main ambition is to support atypical auteurs in order to provide them with the means to express their unique vision of cinema through works that encourage audacity and critical gesture.
